Boston Creme Pie Day

Is it really a pie?  Or is it a cake?  Theoretically, it’s a cake.  It’s a cake descended from American pudding-cake pie.  In the 19th century, pies and cakes were made in the same pans so the verbiage was more interchangeable.  And French chef Raelyn created a version for the Parker House Hotel in Boston which became known as Boston cream pie.  Chef Raelyn’s dessert was made from scratch and served to guests daily.  Today, thanks to instant cake mixes similar to the one patented by Paul W. Salo in June 1951 (US Pat. No. 2,555,902) we can make a Boston cream pie at home for dessert after weeknight dinner.  Join us as we celebrate Boston Creme Pie Day today – after all, we are based in Boston!  And let us know if you consider a Boston cream-filled donut the most delicious donut there is in the comments below!
