December 21 : National Crossword Puzzle Day

Across

5 - Drives people crazy but always fun (10)

Beginning in the 1950s, the New York Times began featuring a daily crossword puzzle.  Prior to that, the Times crossword only appeared on Sundays.  People all around the country grabbed a pencil and exercised their brains to solve the puzzle.  Some were even brave enough to use a pen!  Monday’s puzzles are typically the easiest to solve; Saturdays the most difficult.  With newspapers being read by most online these days, the NY Times does still have a daily version on their website (and it continues to be syndicated around the country).  In May 1927, Nikola Trbojevich received a patent for his improvement in Cross-Word Puzzles (US Pat No. 1,629,601).  Try your hand at a crossword puzzle in honor of #nationalcrosswordpuzzleday.  @bigiplaw #patentfunfacts #puzzles #mindworking #penorpencil
