November 21 World Television Day
In 1931, a black and white television system sold for about $150 (approximately $2,500 today). This television system would have been similar to the one patented by Philo T. Farnsworth in August 1930 (US Pat. No. 1,773,980). Norbert David Larky patented his color television design in March 1959 (US Pat. No. 2,879,328) and assigned it to the Radio Corporation of America (better known as RCA). However, it wasn’t until the early 1970s that the color television began to outsell black and white televisions! These days, you’d be hard pressed to find a black and white television anywhere. And do cell phones count as televisions with all the streaming services now available? Let us know your opinion in the comments below! #worldtelevisionday #bigiplaw #patentfunfacts #television
