No Shave November
As we usher in #noshavenovember, let’s take a close look at razors! Barbers and gentlemen all around the country celebrated their clean, close shaves when George W. Korn patented his razor in 1902 (US Pat. No. 693,524). A warm towel and shaving soap allowed the blade to glide over the face. Many opted to keep a mustache, but the rest of the beard was quickly removed. A few years later, K.C. Gillette patented his Razor which included a disposable safety blade (US Pat. No. 775,134). Gentlemen were now able to shave more easily at home with a newly sharp blade. Enter the 1930s and J. Schick with his patent for a Shaving Machine (US Pat. No. 1757,978). Schick’s hand-held machine eliminated the need for water and soap when shaving and was easy to maintain. Let’s not forget the ladies! In 1915, Gillette introduced the “Milady Décolleté” specifically designed for shaving the underarms. #bigiplaw #patentfunfacts #shaveornoshave
